What is Graphic Design? (week 2)

This week I will discuss about a brand logo. Right now I am assigned with the task of coming up with a brand for the Honors Programs office. So I have been investing some time in looking at logo’s and brands of different things. The one I am going to talk about is the logo for an Indian TV channel AmritaTV.

The reason why I like it is because of its simplicity. The way they have used simple forms to convey a deeper meaning. The organization that owns this channel is headed by a Spiritual Guru named Mata Amritanandamayi, better known as “AMMA” which means mother. The logo depicts a mother and a child. The colors used are also very thoughtful the vermillion inside shows the depth in the relationship, and the gold/yellow shows prosperity.

The text even though looks a lil unrelated to the graphic. The use of an all caps and formal text style according to me throws off the flow and subtlety of the image.

  1. I agree with your comments about the typography. it could be softer, rounded and be more compatible with the mark that way. it would also be more maternal-looking.
